Evidence-based integrative psychiatry that looks for why symptoms developed and builds care around what we find. Telehealth across New Hampshire and Maine.
Symptoms rarely have a single cause. We look for the ones that matter for you.
See our approach →Your full story first, then targeted testing only when it's relevant. No standard protocols, no unnecessary tests.
You'll understand the reasoning behind every recommendation, and decisions are made with you.
Validated measures show what's working, so progress is visible rather than assumed.
Many factors shape mental health, often more than one at once. Our job is to figure out which ones actually matter for you.
Depending on your circumstances, an evaluation might touch on neurobiology, trauma, sleep, nutrition, physical health, inflammation, metabolism, hormonal health, genetics, and the gut-brain connection. Care can also include referrals to therapy and recommendations around mind-body practices like breathwork and mindfulness, and attention to purpose and spiritual wellbeing — areas that conventional psychiatric care often overlooks but that we consider essential. Not every factor applies to every patient. We're not trying to check every box; we're trying to ask the right questions for you.
Relationships, sleep, nutrition, exercise, environment
Genetics, hormones, neurological health, inflammation, the gut-brain connection
Trauma, chronic stress, thought patterns, beliefs
Therapy, mind-body practices, purpose and spiritual wellbeing, identity, values
"Symptoms are signals. Rather than silencing them, we work to understand what they're pointing toward."
Cairn is for people 16 and older who want understanding, not just symptom management. Many of our patients recognize themselves in one of these:
You're analytical and you ask good questions. You've been offered solutions without explanations, and you sense something is missing from your story. We have a framework, and you'll understand not just what we find, but why we looked for it.
Medication, therapy, or lifestyle changes got you partway, maybe 60–70% better. You suspect another piece: inflammation, hormones, sleep, nutrition, unprocessed stress. Rather than more random tweaking, we investigate what, systematically.
You carry real responsibility at work and at home, and from the outside it's working. Inside there's brain fog, fatigue, and low motivation. Often it's unsustainable demands meeting real biological strain. We look at both, and help you rebuild rather than just telling you to meditate.
Purpose, values, connection, and spiritual wellbeing are part of how you understand health. Here they aren't a wellness add-on. Biology, psychology, and life context are considered together, never just brain chemistry.
Excessive worry, panic, or persistent unease that interferes with daily life
Including partial improvement or recurring symptoms on prior treatment
Comprehensive evaluation, not stimulant management alone
Understanding trauma's interaction with biology
Mood changes that don't fit a single pattern, evaluated carefully and treated individually
Intrusive thoughts and compulsive patterns, addressed without judgment
Perimenopause, menopause, pregnancy planning, postpartum
The exhaustion that builds when demands outpace resources, evaluated alongside its physical and psychiatric roots
For patients who've seen multiple providers and still don't have a clear picture of what's contributing to how they feel
Before psychiatry, I studied microbiology at McGill and worked in infectious disease research. That habit of following the evidence, together with formal training in integrative and functional psychiatry, shapes how I practice: careful investigation, clear reasoning, and care built around you.
I have more than nine years in psychiatric practice and more than a decade in the behavioral health field, across outpatient, inpatient, and clinical leadership roles, including as a behavioral health medical director.
Read My Full StoryThis is investigation-centered psychiatry, not a standard intake repackaged. Each step is shaped by your clinical picture, explained as we go, and measured over time.
We start by listening. A free fit conversation, then a comprehensive evaluation of your history, records, and what you have already tried.
We rule out sleep and medical contributors first. Testing then follows your clinical picture, not a standard panel. We explain why each test matters, and every test is optional.
Results are reviewed with you, not to you, in the context of your whole picture. Together we identify the actionable targets most likely to make the biggest difference.
Progress is tracked with validated measures like the PHQ-9 and GAD-7, along with wearable or home data when useful, so it is visible rather than assumed. Your plan evolves with your response.
Support begins right away, including medication when it's appropriate, along with sleep, nutrition, therapy referrals, and mind-body practices. You never wait on lab results to start feeling better. Testing refines your plan; it doesn't replace it.
Visits are by secure video, with limited in-person availability in Conway and Fryeburg.
The planning visits after your evaluation, where we review testing recommendations and your treatment plan, are scheduled as extended follow-ups.
Cairn is a direct-pay practice, which means your appointment time goes toward your care, not insurance paperwork. That means longer visits and more flexibility. A superbill is available if you'd like to seek out-of-network reimbursement. A credit card is kept on file at intake.
You have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges in writing before your appointment.

Yes, when it's clinically appropriate, alongside other evidence-based treatment options.
Instead of matching symptoms to a diagnosis and a standard algorithm, we look for why symptoms developed. That means a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and, where your history points to it, targeted biomarker testing such as inflammatory markers, nutrient status, hormones, or metabolic health, interpreted in clinical context. Testing is always optional and never a standard panel.
Only when your history or testing supports them, never started blindly. When a supplement is recommended, you can order professional-grade products through our Fullscript dispensary, or buy them wherever you prefer.
Most care is by secure video, and you will need to be located in New Hampshire or Maine at the time of each video visit. Limited in-person appointments are available in Conway, New Hampshire and Fryeburg, Maine.
